  Continuing Legal Education Programme (CLE)

The Tanganyika Law Society’s Continuing Legal Education Programme has been in full operation for the many years on a voluntary basis. However following a resolution of members in the Half AGM, which was held in August 2008 in Dodoma the program, was transformed from a voluntary programme to a mandatory one. In 2009 the mandatory programme was introduced and was successfully held and organised in all TLS chapters. The Programme is self financed by registration fees charged on participants of the sessions.

The CLE Programme rolls out an annual calendar which covers different law topics in the format of seminars and lectures. The sessions are carried out in various towns in the country and a number of advocates volunteer to present or facilitate at the sessions. The 2008 CLE Calendar had over 13 sessions (excluding CLE sessions at the Half Annual General meeting and the Annual General Meeting). The seminars were balanced to ensure all seven chapters of the TLS receive some form of training with a view to ensure we don’t give members a huge financing burden.

The Continuing Legal Education Committee provides policy direction to the programme and meets regularly to discuss pertinent issues of implementation of the programme. The Committee also accredits other institutions which would like to put on sessions on professional development for lawyers.
